This is a collection moments that has stayed with me since capturing them. Some are several years old. It’s a certain way a stranger is holding themselves or what they’re wearing that is so potent to me. I’m often on the street — my studio is located downtown in Britomart, Auckland. The mundanity of point A to point B is a constant. E.g. catching public transport, running errands or grabbing lunch with a friend and often times I spot something stopping me in my scurry and I quickly take a shot and carry on, it almost becomes rhythmic or like a daily mantra but a physical act. This is a diary. I’m the seagull. I feel lucky to catch these fleeting moments.

This volume contains predominantly iPhone pictures with a few captured on film. I’ve realised with the nature of our modern, everyday scurry that iPhone totally suffices and to me — captures the tone perfectly imperfectly. I’ve designed the book with this ratio in mind. Though Fiona and I joked that it’d be ridicously comedic or audacious to print in a larger format and really lean in to these moments, pixelated and all, full immersion.
